Pricing and Booking Questions

Four things people ask before booking any drain work:

Call (07) 3522 3397

What does it cost to clear a blocked drain?

Every job is priced on its own facts: where the access point sits, how deep the line runs, what caused the stoppage and whether the pipe needs filming. You get the figure in writing and the work starts only once you agree to it.

How do I pay for the drain work?

Card or EFTPOS on the day, once the line runs freely and you've seen the result. The price is agreed in writing before any work starts, so the figure you approved is the figure you pay.

How quickly can a plumber get here?

Same-day where we can: ring early and there's a good chance we can be there the same day, depending on the bookings. If sewage is coming up indoors, mention it when you call so it gets priority.

How do I book a drain visit?

The fastest way is the phone: (07) 3522 3397. Have a note of which drains are playing up and when the trouble started, and we can set a time that suits you, often for the same day.

Pipes Ownership and Repair Questions

The next four cover who owns what and how a fix is chosen.

Which drains are my responsibility and which belong to Urban Utilities?

The branch line serving your place, from the fixtures back to where it meets the street connection, is the homeowner's to maintain. Everything on the far side of that connection, including the main out in the road, sits with Urban Utilities.

What happens if the blockage is in the street main?

Then it's Urban Utilities' job, not ours, and we'll tell you straight if that's where the trouble sits. A check of your own line first still makes sense, so you know which side of the connection the problem is on.

Can old earthenware pipes be relined instead of dug up?

Often, yes. Where a pipe is cracked or root-damaged but still holds its shape, relining sleeves the existing run from inside, which can spare the driveway or garden bed. A collapsed length usually needs digging, and the camera shows which case you're dealing with.

What should never go down the toilet or sink?

Treat the toilet and sink as a one-way street for the basics. Wipes marketed as flushable, paper towel, cotton buds, cooking fat and hair are the usual offenders, and every one of them settles in a pipe somewhere until it chokes the flow.

Local Ground and Drain Questions

Zillmere's pipe stock and weather throw up questions of their own.

Why do drains here keep blocking after a clear?

Most houses here drain through earthenware pipes laid in the postwar decades, and their rigid joints open up as the red clay beneath swells and dries. Roots and silt get back in through those gaps, so a clear that ignores the joints only lasts until they refill.

Does storm season change how stormwater drains behave?

Summer storms from November to March arrive hard and fast, and the large roofed and paved industrial areas shed their water quickly into drainage lines that were never sized for it. Clearing pits and downpipes before the wet season is worth the early call.

Are the older streets near the railway station worse for tree roots?

The farm-era streets close to the railway station carry mature trees over lines that went in before the 1950s, and fine roots only need a small gap at a joint. A camera inspection finds the entry point so the repair targets the right length.

I rent my place out. Who arranges the drain work?

If you're renting, report it to your agent or landlord first, since they arrange the trade. If you own a rental here, we deal with whoever you nominate and quote the job before anything starts.

What does a CCTV drain inspection actually show?

A camera pass shows the pipe's inside wall: roots, cracks, silt build-up, joints that have offset and sections that have dropped, with the position of each marked along the line. That evidence turns guesswork into a decision you can see on screen.

Which nearby suburbs do you cover?

Fitzgibbon and Taigum sit on the same loop, as do Boondall, Geebung and Aspley, each with its own page here. Wherever you are among them, the price gets agreed before any work begins.

Not Covered Here?

Anything not answered above? The contact page has what to have ready when you ring, and the plumber can talk through your specific drain on the phone before any visit is booked.
